About Latin recordings

Latin recordings are usually readings, prayers, Masses, lessons or chant. Ecclesiastical (Italianate) and classical pronunciations are both transcribed into standard Latin spelling, normally without vowel-length marks.

How to transcribe a Latin recording

  1. Upload the file (up to 5 GB) or paste a link from YouTube, TikTok, Facebook or another platform.
  2. Keep Latin as the spoken language (or auto-detect), add a translation if you want one, and pay once.
  3. Download the Latin transcript as plain text, text with timestamps and SRT subtitles.

An honest note on accuracy

Automatic speech recognition has seen far less recorded Latin than English or Spanish, so expect more mistakes in names, place names and specialist terms, especially in noisy recordings. Clear speech close to the microphone gives the best result. If a paid file cannot be transcribed at all, you are refunded automatically.

Translate Latin audio into English or another language

Choose a translation language before paying and you get two versions: the original Latin transcript and a line-by-line translation, both as TXT and as SRT with the same timings. That makes it easy to check the translation against the original, or to publish subtitles in both languages.

Questions

Does it work with Church Latin?

Yes. Ecclesiastical and classical pronunciation are both transcribed in standard Latin spelling.

How accurate is Latin transcription?

Usable for clear speech, with more corrections than in English or Spanish. Speech models have heard far less Latin, so names, place names, numbers and specialist terms are where to look first. Background music, overlapping voices and phone-line audio make it harder still.

Can I translate Latin audio to English?

Yes. Pick English (or any of 141 other languages) as the translation language before paying. You get the original Latin transcript and the translation, both as TXT and SRT.

What if the recording mixes Latin and English?

Leave the spoken language on auto-detect. Each part is written in the language it is spoken in, so English sentences stay in English instead of being forced into Latin.

Is Latin supported as well as English?

It is supported, but less recorded Latin exists for training speech models, so the transcript usually needs more checking than an English one. The price is the same, and a file that fails entirely is refunded automatically.
