About Urdu recordings

Urdu is written in Urdu script (Perso-Arabic), right to left. Because spoken Urdu and Hindi are very close, choose Urdu as the spoken language if you want Urdu script rather than Devanagari. English words common in Pakistani speech may be kept in English.

How to transcribe a Urdu recording

  1. Upload the file (up to 5 GB) or paste a link from YouTube, TikTok, Facebook or another platform.
  2. Keep Urdu as the spoken language (or auto-detect), add a translation if you want one, and pay once.
  3. Download the Urdu transcript as plain text, text with timestamps and SRT subtitles.

Written in Arabic, not in Latin letters

Your transcript comes back in Arabic, the script Urdu is normally written in, not as a romanised approximation. The SRT file is plain UTF-8 text, so the characters display correctly in YouTube Studio, VLC, Premiere Pro and other modern players and editors.

Right-to-left text in TXT and SRT

Urdu is written from right to left. The transcript keeps the original characters and direction, and the subtitle file can be loaded into players and editors that support right-to-left text. If a line shows punctuation on the wrong side, the player is the problem, not the file: try VLC or YouTube Studio.

Translate Urdu audio into English or another language

Choose a translation language before paying and you get two versions: the original Urdu transcript and a line-by-line translation, both as TXT and as SRT with the same timings. That makes it easy to check the translation against the original, or to publish subtitles in both languages.

Questions

Will Urdu come back in Urdu script or in Hindi letters?

In Urdu script (Nastaliq style depends on your font), right to left, when the spoken language is Urdu. Because spoken Urdu and Hindi are very close, choose Urdu yourself if a short file is detected as Hindi.

How accurate is Urdu transcription?

A clear Urdu recording with one speaker at a time comes out close to word-perfect. Accuracy drops with background music or noise, people talking over each other, strong regional accents and poor phone recordings: the same things that make a recording hard for a person to follow.

Can I translate Urdu audio to English?

Yes. Pick English (or any of 141 other languages) as the translation language before paying. You get the original Urdu transcript and the translation, both as TXT and SRT.

What if the recording mixes Urdu and English?

Leave the spoken language on auto-detect. Each part is written in the language it is spoken in, so English sentences stay in English instead of being forced into Urdu.

Will the Urdu transcript be in Arabic?

Yes. The text is written in Arabic, the way Urdu is normally written, not transliterated into Latin letters.

Does the Urdu SRT work in video editors?

Yes. The SRT file is standard UTF-8 with the original right-to-left text. YouTube Studio, VLC and most editors display it correctly; if punctuation looks out of place, check that your editor supports right-to-left text.
